DIMAPUR — Canara Bank, Pfutsero branch, has extended financial assistance to six girl students of Government Middle School, Leshemi, in Phek district.

The assistance was through the Canara Vidya Jyoti scholarship scheme under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, an update stated.

Adani Thomas, Branch Manager, while briefing about the scheme on August 15, said that the scholarship initiative is a part of Canara Bank’s broader vision to foster educational empowerment and bridge the socio-economic divide by enabling access to quality education for all.

Its main objective is to promote girls education and foster gender equity. This programme aims to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from underprivileged backgrounds and it’s a onetime scholarship.

“While acknowledging the bank for its generous contribution, the school believes that it will make a real difference in the lives of girl students giving them ample opportunities and prospects to pursue dreams and build a better future.

“Such inclusive and supportive initiatives for girls particularly from those particularly marginalised and economically disadvantage background will be greatly benefited. This type of initiatives will encourage student enrolment and retention rates of girl students and foster equal opportunities in education,” the update stated.
