Chanbemo Kikon lighting the torch to mark the inauguration
of the 2nd Adolescent Fest at Urban Haat, Dimapur.
DIMAPUR — The 2nd Adolescent Fest kicked off
on Monday at Urban Haat, Dimapur, organised by Can Youth in collaboration with
AIDA, aimed at empowering and uniting adolescents.
According to an update, the programme was led by Binod Dey,
and the keynote address and welcome were delivered by Jenpu Rongmei, founder
and chief functionary of Can Youth.
In his address, Jenpu highlighted the organisation’s mission
to promote youth development, leadership, health, environment, education, and
livelihood among minority tribal and migrant families. He shared the
organisation's origin story, established in memory of his late brother, who
tragically passed away due to drug addiction after battling depression.
Jenpu explained that he deeply understands the challenges
adolescents face, ranging from education to leadership to health. The 2nd
Adolescent Fest, he stated, aims to bring young people together on a single
platform to share joy, showcase their talents, and develop focused, positive
minds.
He also addressed critical social issues, including the
alarming rates of adolescent deaths due to malnutrition and the widespread drug
abuse among youth. He encouraged attendees to stay focused on developing their
skills, talents, and positive attitudes.
The special guest, Chanbemo Kikon, CEO of Northeast Hub
Eco-Tourism Pvt. Ltd., shared his journey with the attendees. Kikon spoke about
the success of his company, which provides employment opportunities across
India and Asia.
He emphasised the importance of mental health, urging the
youth to recognise and address mental health challenges. Drawing from his
personal experience of facing depression and stress for two years, he advised
adolescents to prioritise mental health, embrace self-love, and be kind and
accepting towards others facing mental health challenges.
He stressed the need for young people to start early in
whatever they choose to pursue, with a focus on building a positive mindset.
The first day of the 2nd Adolescent Fest featured a slogan
competition, painting competition, penalty shootout, tug of war, meet and
mingle, followed by a dance competition, special presentation, and winter music
bash.
The second and final day, December 17, will feature arm
wrestling, a singing competition, the 2nd Mr. and Mrs. Adolescent Fest, and
will conclude with special presentations, a winter music bash, and a
benediction.
The organisers requested all adolescents of Dimapur and
Chümoukedima to witness the 2nd Adolescent Fest and be a part of it.
