
Officials of Can Youth during the inauguration of 2nd
adolescent fest in Dimapur on December 16.
- DIMAPUR — A
two-day 2nd adolescent fest, organised by Can Youth in collaboration with AIDA
at Urban Haat in Dimapur concluded on Tuesday. The event was focused on
empowering and uniting adolescents.
- Delivering the keynote address during the inaugural
programme, founder and chief functionary of Can Youth, Jenpu Rongmei,
highlighted the organisation’s mission and vision to promote youth development,
leadership, health, environment, education and livelihood among minority tribal
and migrant families. He shared the origin of Can Youth, which was founded in
memory of his late brother, who tragically passed away due to drug addiction
after battling depression.
- Rongmei informed that the 2nd adolescent fest aims to bring
young people together on a single platform to share joy, showcase their talents
and develop positive minds.
- He also spoke on critical social issues including the
alarming rates of adolescent death due to malnutrition and widespread drug
abuse and further encouraged the participants to stay focused on developing
their skills, talents and positive attitudes, an update from Can Youth stated.
- The special guest of the inaugural programme, Chanbemo
Kikon, CEO of Northeast Hub Eco-Tourism Pvt. Ltd., shared his inspiring journey
with the attendees.
- Kikon spoke about the success of his company when he was 27
years old, which provided employment opportunities across India and Asia. He
emphasised the importance of mental health and urged the youth to recognise and
address mental health challenges.
- Drawing from his personal experience of facing depression
and stress for two years, he advised adolescents to prioritise mental health,
embrace self-love and be kind towards others facing mental health challenges.
- He also stressed the need for young people to start early in
whatever they choose to pursue with a focus on building a positive mindset.
- He further encouraged young people to take immediate steps
if they possess leadership qualities, reflecting a transformational leadership
style that fosters innovation and progress. He also underscored the potential
of youth energy and creativity to bring about positive outcomes.
