Dimapur, March 1 (EMN): Peace Channel launched 2030 Campaign with the theme “Peace to All” on March 1 during a training programme for the teachers, religious and community leaders, volunteers and professionals at North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) conference hall. The participants were trained on how to intervene and resolve conflict.
According to an updated received here on Friday, the objectives of the campaign is to make Nagaland a peaceful state in the global map; to work for peace in different sectors (educational institutions, different organisations, communities) and be a messenger of peace; to conduct training on ‘Call for Peace’ and be partners of peace; and to be a peace builder and contribute towards a peaceful society.
Director of Peace Channel Dr. Fr. C.P.Anto started the training programme by quoting Alvin Toffler: “The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, re-learn and unlearn.” He dwelled on “peer mediation” using demonstration on conceptual structure of the society that depicts the present scenario of Nagaland and shared “about the objectives, process, principles and effective ways to solve problems through peer mediation.”
The director stressed on the development of the youth and children in different institutions; to empower them to become peace makers and manage conflict constructively; to solve their own problems; and to regulate their own and their classmates’ behaviour.
Trainer for the programme Dr. Deben Bachaspatimayum, asst. prof. of NEISSR, stressed on “dialogue” as a skill of peace-building. He also “explained on the difference between dialogue and conversation, and how one can effectively paraphrase the communication by changing the negative content that can lead to conflict and make a peaceful conversation.”
