[dropcap]M[/dropcap]any people must have gone through painful experiences of racial discrimination in different ways. Many have been beaten up, tortured, sexually harassed, molested, exploited, raped and killed just because they look different. If you are born in North East India with unique culture and physiognomy, it does not give other Indians the right to discriminate you.
In order to spread the awareness on the issue and also to coordinate the concerned students bodies in Manipur, a group of youngsters, mostly students, belonging to different places drove down to Imphal recently. Since then the group of youngsters led by one Rahul Anand Singh under the banner ‘Fight for Your Pride’ is trying to take up steps towards a racism-free society.
‘Fight for Your Pride’ is a movement started in the year 2010 against the ill-treatment and discrimination with Indians by Indians itself in their own country.“We started working for NE origins as according to our survey more than 92 percent of NE Indians are victim of racism and face discrimination,” said Rahul Anand while speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon. They are targeted most just because of their different appearance, languages and because of unfamiliarity with the local living environment, he said.
After seeing numerous incidents with North East Indians in Delhi in particular, fight for your pride under Aawahan equipped with appropriate security, legal assistance, job and education guidance and other opportunities, he added.
The party will also provide free periodic health check-ups and free pick and drop service for females in emergency crisis situation. The team will be meeting students bodies of the state separately to continue to the campaign
