With paeans and awards, and bouquets and ceremonies, educational institutions across Nagaland honored teachers on September 5, Teacher’s Day, as a tribute to the guides and instructors. 5 September 1888 is the birth date of the second President of India, the academic philosopher Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. Along with the rest of the country, Teacher’s Day was celebrated with much fervor and gaiety in Mangkolemba under Mokokchung district on September 5. The event was conducted in the town hall with ADC Imtiwapang Aier as the chief guest.
Wishing and congratulating the teachers present on their auspicious day, Aier said education is a life process and as a learner, it is the teacher who plays an important role in developing and shaping the life of every student.
Appreciating the performance of teachers in Mangkolemba sub-division for being ‘torchbearers despite the limited facilities available,’ Aier urged them to keep themselves updated with the various technologies as the mindset of the students are changing in the present world. He also said it was the duty of every teacher to extract the best out of the students inspire of their limitations.
The Education department of Longleng district celebrated Teachers’ Day with a program for all the schools in Longleng on September 5. The event, themed “You have changed my life, Dear Teachers,” was conducted in the PBCA Convention Hall in the town. Parliamentary Secretary for Land Resources & Excise BS Nganlang Phom was the chief guest.
In his speech, the politician talked about the respect for teachers that the students and community have. He asked the teachers not to choose the profession of teaching as an employment opportunity. Instead, teachers should work hard in providing quality education to the people, in this context, the Phom community, he said.
During the celebrations, twelve teachers were given awards for excellence. The awardees were B. Chingshau , Chingkam , B. Chongngoi, H Alemba, B. Ongshong, T Nganen, N. Pongi, Moilen, Methai, Mahadep Mahapradra, Nageshwar Rai and Pudul Gogoi .
Mon
Mon district also joined the state in celebrating teachers and the contribution to society.
The event conducted in the council hall of Mon. ADC of Mon MA Shihab called upon the teachers to rededicate to their noble profession with commitment and to shape the students for the betterment of the society.
He termed teaching a noble profession that transforms the character of the society and the future of an individual.
Asserting that teachers are role models, the administrator appealed to the teachers not to confine their teachings to academic knowledge alone but to impart moral values and enrich the personality of students in the class rooms ‘to ensure value base education’.
Shihab also said that with the advancement of civilization and competitive world, the role of the teacher had widened, and it was very crucial for change and development of the society.
Also, pointing out every child as unique and that no child was beyond hope, he urged teachers realize weaknesses and strengths of every student to identify them and to bridge ‘gaps.’
Every student is greatly influence by the quality of the teachers and parents, Shihab said.
He also gave away the Teachers Award 2015 to the 9 deserving teachers.
The highlights of the daylong celebration were: Honoring the teachers; life sketch of Dr. Radha Krishnan by the student of Model School; Dance display by students of Sacred Heart School; Feast Day song by the students of St. Joseph School; Hip – Hop by the students of Model School; Special number by the students of GHSS Mon; Thematic dance by the Students of Eastern School; Presentation of Award to the awardees; Welcome song by the students of Eastern School and Prayer dance by the Students of Don Bosco School.
Salesian College of Higher Education
Salesian College of Higher Education joined the rest of the country in appreciating and showing gratitude to the teachers 5th September on the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishna the second President of India.
To mark the day the student council prepared programs highlighting the importance of teacher in the lives of the students. Rajendra Reang while appreciating the teachers said, we have teachers who not only teach but inspire. Speaking on the occasion Dr. (Fr.) Policarp Xalxo the Principal of the College exhorted the teachers saying, “Teachers remember, the student who challenges you most, is the one who needs you the most.”
