DIMAPUR, AUGUST 13
Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya on Thursday expressed “deep concern” over the “justified demands” of the Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) for implementation of the 25% job reservation policy for people hailing from the four districts of eastern Nagaland.
A press statement from the Governor stated that he has already requested the state government to look in to the ENSF’s demands on priority basis. “I came to know that the State Cabinet in its meeting held on 11th August, 2015 had decided to take so many steps to meet the demands of ENSF.
“They have already taken action in recruiting police force from six tribes of backward ENPO areas. The state government had agreed in principle to establish as commission with power to collect data, study and make recommendations on development, educational and employment, health aspects pertaining to backward tribes in the State with special focus on six BTs (Chang, Khiamniingan, Konyak,Phom, Stangtam and Yimchunger) of Kiphire, Longleng, Mon and Tuensang districts.
“With regard to reservation for backward tribes, the state government had decided to incorporate provision (reservation of BTs) in their servicer of the various departments,” the statement read.
The Governor reasoned that protests, even for genuine demands, “may avoid call for strike and bandh on Independence Day and Republic Day so that we respect the sacrifice of our great heroes who fought for our freedom.”
“Since Government has taken the necessary measures to address your demands and also in view of the celebration of 69th Independence Day in the state, I appreciate if the Eastern Naga Students Federation call off their proposed agitation and let the state to observe the Independence Day peacefully,” the Governor appealed.
