DIMAPUR/MOKOKCHUNG — International Women’s Day was celebrated across various districts of Nagaland, with state government departments, in collaboration with NGOs and CSOs, and educational institutions organising programmes to mark the occasion
Mokokchung: SANKALP: DHEW under Mission Shakti, Mokokchung, in collaboration with Watsu Mungdang, celebrated International Women’s Day on the global theme “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” at the Aor Kilem Conference Hall, Mokokchung ,on March 7.
Kathyinla Jamir, EAC Aghunato, the theme speaker emphasised the importance of collective action in ensuring equal rights and justice for women and girls.
She encouraged participants to continue advocating for inclusive opportunities and supportive environments where women can thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.

Moamenla Longkumer, District Mission Coordinator, DHEW, delivered an introduction to Mission Shakti. She elaborated on the mission's objectives and initiatives, emphasising the government’s commitment to strengthening mechanisms for the safety, security, and empowerment of women through integrated support systems at the district level.
The programme also featured insightful sharing sessions by Dr. Sentirenla Ozukum of Sen-Bakes and Asenla, founder of First Rain Foundation. Both speakers shared their experiences and perspectives on women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, and the importance of community support in enabling women to pursue opportunities and overcome challenges.
Tianaro Jamir, president of Watsu Mungdang, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to continue working towards the welfare, empowerment, and advancement of women and girls.
Nichet Jamir, in her welcome note, highlighted the significance of commemorating International Women’s Day as a platform to recognise the contributions of women and to renew commitment toward gender equality and empowerment.

NEISSR: The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) commemorated International Women’s Day 2026 through a programme organised by its Gender Champion Club on March 7 at the institute’s BAM Hall.
The event aimed to promote awareness on gender equality and reaffirm collective commitment towards the empowerment of women and girls.
Delivering the keynote address, BSW trainee Geganli Rufina highlighted the 2026 global theme, “Give to gain.”
She stated that the theme encourages individuals, institutions, and communities to embrace generosity, collaboration, and shared responsibility in advancing gender equality. Supporting and creating opportunities for women, she said, contributes to broader social development and collective well-being.
Rufina noted that investments in women’s empowerment bring long-term benefits to families, communities, and society. She also underscored the importance of recognising women’s contributions, improving access to knowledge and mentorship, creating equal opportunities, providing institutional support, challenging discriminatory attitudes, and celebrating women’s achievements.
The programme concluded with a call for sustained commitment and collective action towards achieving gender equality.
SBAN: The Niuland district administration, in collaboration with DHEW and Sakhi-One Stop Centre, organised a commemorative event on the occasion of International Women's Day on Sunday at Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Niuland SBAN).
The programme, chaired by Merryka Sumi, commenced with an introductory address by Holika Sumi, women pastor, SBAN. The keynote speaker Kitoshi Z Swu, SDEO & DEO (charge), Niuland, emphasised the pivotal role of women in societal development.
Alika, CA, OSC, presented an overview of initiatives undertaken by OSC. The programme witnessed participation from officials of DHEW & OSC and women members of SBAN.
ACID: Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID), in collaboration with the National Domestic Workers Movement (Nagaland region), celebrated International Women’s Day at Assisi Auditorium, Lakeview Colony, Dimapur, on March 7.
Chief guest Dr. Neena Dutta, DG elect of Lions Clubs International District 322D, delivered an inspiring address emphasising the importance of education and women’s empowerment.
She said the day is not only a celebration but also an opportunity to recognise the struggles, sacrifices and achievements of women in society. Stressing the value of education, she encouraged women to dream big and believe in their potential, adding that educating a woman means educating an entire generation.
Speaker of the day K Ela, Director of Prodigals’ Home, spoke about the strength and resilience of women and highlighted the importance of mutual support. Referring to the theme, she encouraged women to uplift one another to build stronger communities.
Advocate Priya encouraged women to be courageous and confident, stressing the importance of determination, self-belief and unity among women to overcome life’s challenges.
The celebration provided a joyful and inspiring platform for participants to showcase their talents and reaffirm their commitment to promoting women’s rights and development. Around 350 people attended the event.
Model Christian College: Model Christian College, Kohima, celebrated International Women’s Day at the college auditorium On March 7 with students and faculty members in attendance. Guest speaker Meneno V, gender specialist at State Hub for Empowerment of Women Mission Shakti, Social Welfare department, addressed the audience on the theme of women empowerment and the need to create opportunities for women in all spheres of life.
She also mentioned the services make available for women and children, and stressed on the need to create a safer community for the collective whole.
