Dimapur, Feb. 22 (EMN): C-Edge College has observed the International Mother Language Day on February 21 with active participation by students and the faculty members.
The day is observed worldwide to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity and to promote multilingualism. The college organised the event on the theme “Enriching mother language.”
On the occasion, students presented various items such as traditional group songs in various Naga tribal dialects, traditional Ao declaration of their own clans known as ‘Atem,’ a detailed presentation of the Sumi Naga clan names, and a drama titled ‘The Jungle Major’ extracted from the book ‘These Hills called Home,’ authored by Temsula Ao.
Speaking on the significance of the day, Ms. Nancy Lovika, assistant professor of sociology department, stressed on the importance of technological trends in English learning and teaching and also about connecting with the rest of the world. She also mentioned about inter-marriage between different tribes or races and its effect on the social environment and also about the imitation and ignorance of the people.
The event also featured an educational funspiration both for students and faculty based on the Naga dialects. The invocation for the event was said by the college EU president, David Ao, BBA VI semester.
