Kohima, Oct. 15 (EMN): Butchers' Union Kohima Town (BUKT) celebrated its annual day at New Market Colony on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Neilakielie Kire, advisor of BUKT, recalled the genesis of the union and stated the annual day has been celebrated by singing songs and congregating in feasting and to bury the past rancour.
Recounting the earlier days how their elders practiced honesty, he reminded the butchers to replicate such examples in their conduct and dealings for the welfare of the community.
Neisazolie Khezhie, president of BUKT, stated that the butchers were once considered to be illiterate but now they felt that they are respected too in the society with their children now into different professions including government service while some have degrees in MBBS, engineering, etc.
He exhorted the butchers to continue to respect their profession to support their family thereby emphasising on the dignity of labour. He informed that there are more than 100 members of BUKT.
Extending greetings on the occasion, Medo Keretsü, head GB of Kohima village, spoke briefly on the benefits of eating meat. Neiziengulie Rame, advisor of BUKT, announced that there would be award ceremony for the butchers in the days to come.
It was informed that meat shops in and around capital city remained closed on the occasion during the day.
