The versatile bamboo grass is being put to the test at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre, Dimapur, and with it the inherent skill and dexterity of local Naga workers.
In an effort to take bamboo construction to a new level of competency, training on high end structural bamboo construction is underway at the Centre. The construction exercise has jointly been organised with NBDA and Zynorique Consultant, Nagaland. The entire training exercise is being monitored by Richard Belho, official architect consultant of NBDA.
The training with selected workers dwelt in all the parameters of a conventional construction exercise i.e. making of scaled miniature models; selection of specific bamboo materials and complete assembly of the actual structure within a specified period of time. With the success of this grueling training module, the Agency is hopeful that it will be ready with a complete team of high end bamboo construction workers, who can be assigned to undertake ground breaking construction tasks anywhere in the country.
With a growing global awareness on the versatility and efficiency of bamboo as a building material, the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency is definitely on a fast-forward mode to explore ways and means in this area, thereby generating further employment with finer work output.
