Dimapur, Nov. 23 (EMN): Governor PB Acharya on Friday said that unity in diversity, which is a ‘synthesis of diverse social and cultural elements,’ was the peculiarity of India.
Delivering the inaugural talk of a three-day national seminar on “India’s North East, A Celebration of (Indigenous) Cultures: A Phenomenological Approach” at St Joseph’s College, Jakhama, the governor encouraged the participants to strive to build a world free from malice and filled with brotherhood and compassion.
According to a Raj Bhavan statement, Acharya stated that the Northeast region has the potential to be at par with the rest of the country; and the people must work towards achieving that goal. “The governor observed that the region is blessed with abundant natural resources and said that to tap these resources, educational institutions need to play an important role. He stated that skill courses in line with the need of the region should be introduced to benefit students and the Northeast. Unless Northeast develops India will not develop,” the governor was reported as saying.
Acharya also urged the people living in the Northeast region to be proud of their languages and cultures; and utilise their skills and knowledge for development of the region.
The principal of St. Joseph’s College Fr. Dr. Sebastian Ousepparampil delivered the welcome address while a keynote address was delivered by Prof. Prasenjit Biswas, department of philosophy, NEHU, Shillong.
The national seminar will continue till Nov. 24 where resource persons from various universities across the country are taking part. The event has been organised by St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama and sponsored by the University Grants Commission.
