Kohima, Aug. 12 (EMN): The bio-safety level-2 (BSL-2) laboratory in Tuensang is on the verge of completion as its construction work could be completed by next week.
Once operational, it will be the third bio-safety laboratory in Nagaland after the BSL-3 lab at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) and the BSL-2 at Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research in Dimapur.
Dr. Thangoi Lam, SPO NHM (Technical), and a member of the technical committee for BSL-2 laboratory in Tuensang, told Eastern Mirror on Wednesday that 70 percent work of the new lab is completed.
He informed that the lockdown hindered the transportation of construction materials by road from Guwahati but the civil work of the facility is expected to be completed by this weekend.
The official maintained that all the equipment is now in place and the setting up of instruments for the laboratory will also be completed soon. He added that it will seek ICMR certification after completion, and the laboratory will be functional upon approval.
It may be mentioned that the minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, had earlier informed through a press statement that the laboratory is expected to be commissioned by August third week.
