PAUDI RENTA DIMAPUR, JANUARY 21

Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar has called upon the student leaders, politicians and bureaucrats of the State to bring about qualitative transformation by ensuring rapid agro-economic development and creation of jobs and livelihood opportunities for the youth to enable them to live a dignified life. Dr Kumar desired that no young man and woman should remain unemployed or denied an opportunity to earn his/her livelihood as per his qualification, qualities and capabilities but be provided reasonable standard of living and facilities. He said this while speaking at the 49th general conference of Kyong Students’ Union at Lakhuti village in Wokha district today. The Governor noted with regret that some very talented Naga boys and girls - many of them highly educated, sophisticated and smart - were worried about their future. Stating that the present generation wants good jobs, Dr Kumar said they are prepared to work hard to earn their livelihood which they expect will provide them reasonable standard of living and facilities like roads, vehicles, mobiles, internet, TV and goodies of life which others are enjoying. He also said the young Naga generation wants safety of their families and security of their hard earn money. Indicating prevalence of a big gap between what the people want and what is discussed in official meetings at Kohima and Delhi as observed during his interaction, the Governor said the people are in desperate need of good water supply and electricity; good roads and hospitals, adding the people are most worried about the education and employment for their children. He said all people wanted rapid agriculture and economic development and they don’t like violence, bloodshed, threats and extortion. He also observed that the people hate corruption and illegal taxation. While acknowledging that Nagaland is endowed with excellent climate, best flora and fauna, sufficient natural and mineral resources coupled with availability of excellent human resources within Nagaland, the Governor however said the challenge to transform Nagaland has to be taken up by the people of the State through agro-economic development. He has, therefore, stressed on the need to create job opportunities by investing all resources in agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, fisheries, animal husbandry, trade, tourism and commerce. Optimistic Governor said it is possible to generate massive employment and livelihood opportunities by combining all our efforts with latest research, techniques and technology.
