Kohima, Oct. 29 (EMN): In what appeared to be a case of negligence of the department of Power, a nine year-old boy from Sechü (Zubza) got electrocuted on Monday evening.
The victim has been identified as Hüshe Thuluo-o, son of Nietahü Thuluo-o of Porba village in Phek district, and a class 3 student of Lower Primary School (Upper), Sechü (Zubza).
Sources said the incident happened when the child, along with a friend, were out in the jungle fetching pig fodder at the new site of the BRTF/GREF, about a kilometre away from Sechü (Zubza).
The death of the young boy was caused from an 11 kv wire which stood at about three feet in height. According to the victim’s friend, the incident happened while he was crawling under the wire.
When contacted, PRO Kohima police confirmed that the incident occurred at around 4 pm. The police acknowledged that no high voltage wires should be placed at such low height from the ground and assured that necessary case will be filed against the Power department.
Meanwhile, residents of Sechü (Zubza) have condemned the ‘sheer negligence’ of the Power department. A Zubza youth leader said that anybody could have been a victim under an 11 kv line which is not even three feet in height.
It has been learnt that the funeral of the victim will be held at Zubza on Tuesday at 12 noon.
