Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): The Dimapur-based Bosco College of Teacher Education (BCTE) celebrated its 16th foundation day on March 23 with a showcase of cultural performances. In his welcome address, the college’s principal Father Thuruthel Joseph exhorted the trainees to preserve and promote their cultural heritage especially in the current context ‘when globalisation is threatening the very existence of traditional cultures.’
Father CP Anto, founder director of the North East Institute of Social Science and Research and Peace Channel cited the example of Finland: It has the best education system in the world. Students learn best when they are placed in a ‘happy’ environment created by the educational system, he said. He added that teachers need to be enthusiastic to ‘create zest for learning’ among students.
Father Tom Karthikkappallil, rector at Salesian College in Dimapur, and the guest of honour of the event, said that students should not be forced to memorise academic matter but should be ‘helped in becoming creative to face life successfully.’
The other highlights of the day included cultural dances and songs representing different ethnic groups and a cultural pageant.
