Dimapur, Feb. 20 (EMN): The annual sports meet of Bosco College of Teacher Education (BCTE), Dimapur got underway on Wed. Feb. 20.
According to a press release received here on Wednesday, Fr. / Dr. T. C. Jose sdb, Principal-cum-Rector of the college, in his welcome speech recalled Don Bosco’s famous advice to his boys, “Run and jump but do not sin.” Knowing that ‘an idle mind is a devil’s workshop’, Don Bosco insisted on regular games and sports. The principal asked the teacher trainees to be proactive and to see that the students have sufficient facilities for sportive activities in their schools.
Fr. V. A. Thomas sdb, Rector of Salesian College of Teacher Education (SCHE), Dimapur, and chief guest of the inaugural programme said ‘knowing others is intelligence, knowing oneself is true wisdom; mastering others is strength, mastering oneself is true power’. He pointed out that sports and games are wonderful means of knowing others and one’s true self.
The teacher trainees divided into four houses blue, green, red and yellow presented four songs on a competitive basis.
The other sports events on the first day included two basketball matches for boys, two volleyball matches for girls, catapult shooting for boys and girls, three-legged race, bursting balloons, spoon and marble race, and 100 meters’ dash for boys and girls. The annual sports meet will conclude on Feb. 22.
