DIMAPUR, JULY 19: Bosco B.Ed College in Dimapur on Tuesday informed the inaguration of ‘inaugurated’ its ‘academic year 2016-2017’.
A press release issued to the local media from the institution said that Fr. Karthikapallil Thomas, rector of Salesian College, and chief guest of the ‘inauguration’ program delivered the keynote address. He was quoted as having said that “teaching is the best profession, not for its monetary remuneration but because it brings the highest satisfaction to the practitioner from the generations of grateful students.”
“He himself has hundreds of past pupils in Northeast India including many doctors, five Bishops and even a supreme court judge. Fr. Tom exhorted the B.Ed students to be teachers who should teach not only through lectures but also through good example,” the press release stated. Also, Fr. Thuruthel Joseph, the new principal of Bosco B.Edcollege, “welcomed the old as well as the new students,” the organizers explained. “He said teaching is a noble profession. In the traditional society three professions were highly respected: the profession of a teacher who trains the intellect, the profession of a doctor who caters to the physical wellbeing of a person and the profession of a priest who takes care of the spiritual life of a person.”
Also, Fr. Joseph said that the profession of a teacher was “still higher as the doctor and the priest themselves have to be taught by a teacher.” He presented three examples to show how great people have appreciated the profession of a teacher: Former Indian President APJ Kalam had said that on retiring from the president’s office he would go back to teaching; former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would return to the department of economics; former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan “affirmed that he would go back to the academia.”
Deepak Bora, a senior teacher, also told the gathering that to make Bosco B.Ed college distinguished as an institution was not for a big beautiful building “but the dedicated service of the teaching staff and the hard work of the students.” He encouraged the students to continue bringing good results as their predecessors have done.
