Dimapur, Dec. 27 (EMN): To instil an atmosphere conducive to peace among people living along the Assam-Nagaland border areas, the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland), BPCC (A-N) convened ‘peace goodwill meeting’ on Dec 22.
The meeting comprised members and prominent public leaders from both the sides. The meeting was conducted in Darikial village of Nakachari in Jorhat district on Wed., update informed on Dec. 27.
The theme for the meeting was mainly to deliberate on the ongoing news about the Government of India’s proposal of inking a final Naga Peace accord and its reported confusions and fear psychosis in the minds of the people. Members from either side opined that “there are certain forces for creating such confusions in the minds of the peace loving people otherwise they are leading a coordinated peaceful living.”
Pabon Gogoi, BPCC(A-N) executive member from Medeluajan expressed that the yearly friendly Volleyball Tournament played between Naga villages of Changpang sector of Wokha district of Nagaland and the bordering villages of Titabar Sub-division since 2003 has been successfully conducted from 18 Dec 2017 and ended with much pomp and funfair where Nagas and Assamese from neighbouring areas took part. “We are living happily with our Naga neighbours without any problem” Gogoi said.
Another member from Aosenden village, from Mokokchung district, Likok Ao elaborated the present media reporting specifically in Assam as nothing but distorted without much truth. He compared such news with a sound of drum. “It is loud but when we open the drum, there is nothing much inside it.” Ao commented.
Renowned media personnels of Assam, Mrinal Talukdar and Atanu Phukan were also invited to enlighten the members of the committee as to how the confusions on the issue could be handled for the situations. They opined that Government of India is assuring that in inking the final Naga Peace accord, the territorial integrity of the North East States would not be compromised which is said by none other than the Prime Minister and Home Minister of the country and therefore “continuing the coordinated living is the need of the hour.”
Under the circumstances, the BPCC (A-N) appeals to all concern at different level from either sides to analyze maintenance of peace, they are to take the note of the situations so that border peace loving people are not misguided and people living in the border areas be given all sorts of assistance.
