The tiring cry of the Naga people to the underground groups to unite is still as loud as it was several decades ago. The same clarion was sounded by the United Naga Tribes Association on Border Areas (UNTABA) on Saturday.
The organization called for unification of the myriad Naga underground groups so that the people can reclaim Naga lands.
The UNTABA issued a press release on Saturday informing of a statement to which its leadership concurred, during a meeting with members from the group’s joint action committee, executive committee and advisory board.
The organization stated in one good length: “While reviewing the current stalemate of divisions amongst the Naga political groups and the civil societies on most of the important issues confronting the Naga people, the meeting strongly reiterates its appeal to different NPGs, the apex Naga Hohos and civil societies to unite for the inalienable rights of the historical and traditional Naga lands and for reclamations of the same on the basis of ‘9 Points Agreements’ made between the Government of India and the Naga people in June 27-29, 1947 at Kohima.”
Also, while reviewing the lack of political will and apathetic indifference on the issue by the subsequent governments of Nagaland, the meeting strongly reiterated its appeal made to the Government of Nagaland on various occasions that it must seriously consider for pro-active engagement for the fulfillment of Points No. 12 & 13 of the ’16 Points Agreement’ of 1960 so as to amalgamate all the Naga traditional and historical lands illegally occupied by Assam in line with the geo-political developments in the aftermath of the ‘Frame Work Agreement’ of 3rd. August, 2015 between the NSCN/GPRN and GoI.
