Kohima, Dec. 10 (EMN): The sudden downpour this morning – which dragged on till late evening –failed to dampen the enthusiasm of Boney M fans who spent the night swaying to the all-too-familiar tune of the band’s hit songs at Hockey Ground, IG Stadium on Sunday.
Fans from children to the older ones clapped, danced and sang along with Liz Mitchell and her band as they belted out popular hits including Rasputin, Daddy Cool, Rivers of Babylon, Mary’s Boy Child, Brown Girl in the Ring etc.
In the middle of the song, Liz Mitchell and Tony Ashcroft indulged in mingling with the crowd even as they screamed and lunged in their attempts to shake hands with the band members. Mitchell invited some children on to the stage, who danced and sang along with the band, to Brown Girl in the Ring.
During the performance, Mitchell told the audience: ‘I owe my talent and success to God, without whom it would not have been possible.” She followed it with a message: I send my peace, harmony and love; without which the world will be in serious trouble.
Local artistes including Mengu Suokhrie, Jonathan Yhome, Moka Koza and Meyase performed prior to the members of Boney M taking stage.
Jacob, a die-hard fan of Boney M arrived at Kohima all the way from Tripura on December 9 just to see the band perform live on stage. Sharing his experience, he said: ‘I listened to their songs during my childhood and it was like a dream to see them performing live.’
He was also one lucky man who happened to be in the same hotel and had a chance to interact with the band face to face and took pictures with them too, he shared.
The Jamaican-born singer, Liz Mitchell performed with her line-up artistes Tony Ashcroft, Jacinth Mhende and Paulette Ker.
