Bomb hurled at Patton’s residence in Wokha

Dimapur, Feb. 8 (EMN): Unidentified persons reportedly hurled a crude bomb at the private residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Y Patton for 37th Tyui assembly constituency (AC) at Wokha on Thu., a report reaching here through our Wokha Correspondent informed. According to Wokha police officials, the incident took place at around 7.45 pm. No casualty was reported. The incident took place when Patton was away from home. Police sources confirmed that gelatine sticks were used. After the explosion the miscreants reportedly fired some shots in the air even as police maintained that the use of guns was yet to be confirmed. In a separate incident from the same constituency, at least seven persons were injured and 13 vehicles belonging to Patton’s supporters were destroyed by the supporters of rival candidates. The media cell of the BJP at 37th Tyui AC claimed that on Thu. supporters of the Naga People's Front (NPF) waylaid and overturned two vehicles at Blue Hill in Wokha after the scrutiny of nominations. Earlier on Thu. morning, NPF supporters at 37 Tyui AC armed with 'lethal weapons' and suspected illegal arms and stationed at Yanthamo and Nyiro village attacked supporters of a BJP candidate. They were reportedly armed with sticks and stones, and burned three two-wheelers, it was reported. On Wed. night, supporters of a JD (U) candidate for 37th Tyui AC armed with 'lethal weapons' reportedly attacked BJP supporters at Englan and Yikhum villages during which at least four persons suffered grievous injuries. Six vehicles and a bus were also destroyed, it has been reported. A complaint listing criminal intimidation and attempt to murder has been lodged with the returning officer's establishment of the area, it informed.
