Bomb exploded; grenade found planted

Newmai News Network Imphal, October 31 Unidentified people hurled an exploded a powerful bomb at the residence of a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in Mayang Imphal under Mayang Imphal Police Station in Imphal West in the early hours of Saturday. No one was injured in the blast that occured at about 4 am at the residence of Dr S Ibomcha, 63, according to reports. However an i20 car parked in the residential garage was partially damaged in the explosion that took place just 150 m from the Mayang Imphal Commando Post. Shortly after the blast, a team from Mayang Imphal Police Station led by its Officer in-Charge and the Sub-Divisional Officer ( SDPO) rushed to the the spot and conducted a search operation. No arrests were made during the operation, according to police sources. A team of media persons was told by the wife of the doctor that no group had demanded money from the family. She appealed to all concerned organisations not to explode bombs in crowded residential areas in future. In a seperate incident, a chinese hand grenade was found planted at the residential gate of one Naorem Pakison in Heijingang Tampha bazaar near Manipur University under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West. The eldest son of the house owner spotted the grenade being placed at the gate at about 7 am. In a piece of paper attached to the bomb explained that it was planted by KCP Poirei group. A team from Singjamei Police retrieved the grenade and defused. Strongly protesting against the incident, a large number of locals held a sit-in-protest at Heijingang bazaar. They appealed to the group responsible for the incident to clarify it. The protesters said Naorem Pakison was a simple businessman and claimed that the group targetted him due to mistaken identity.
