Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): Amid suffering following an unprecedented monsoon emergency characterised by landslides and flood in Nagaland, a noble soul in the personality of actor Sushant Singh Rajput on Tuesday donated INR 1.25 crore to the chief minister’s relief fund.
Sushant Singh Rajput, a renowned Bollywood actor who arrived in Dimapur on September 4, handed the fund to the state’s chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, at the latter’s residence in Sovima.
Earlier, during an interaction with Eastern Mirror at Niathu Resort in Dimapur, Rajput said that his primary reason for visiting Nagaland was to extend monetary help for the relief of the affected people. However, he added, “I will speak with the chief minister and see how best I can be a catalyst in easing the plight of the people in Nagaland.”
Rajput mentioned that he was informed about the dearth of aid for Nagaland when he was actively involved in the relief work in Kerala. Nagaland donating INR one cr. to Kerala even in the face of the disaster wrought by the monsoons in the state had moved him to donate. “I took up this initiative to help in the best way that I could. I also want others to know that people are suffering here in Nagaland,” the actor stated. He added that he would interact with the chief minister of the state and get to know the ground realities.
“I will assess the damage and see whether I could help with other support services apart from the monetary donation. I will go back tomorrow and inform about the calamities with my team and see if we can extend more help,” Rajput said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio wrote on Twitter: “I thank Sushant Singh Rajput for standing with Nagaland. He personally handed over a cheque of INR 1.25 crore towards CM Relief Fund. I am grateful to him and everyone who has come in support of our state.”
Sushant Singh Rajput is an emerging polymath, an Indian film and television actor and an entrepreneur. In 2016, Rajput appeared in sports film “MS Dhoni: The Untold Story,” in which he portrayed the role of ace Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, which earned the actor critical acclaim. In May 2018, he announced an association with NITI Aayog to promote a flagship initiative Women Entrepreneurship Platform.
Additional INR 45 lakh raised in four days
In the past four days, the chief minister’s relief fund has received INR 45.50 lakh (excluding the contribution from Sushant Singh), according to a DIPR report. Of the total, INR 10 lakh has been given to Kiphire district, it was informed.
“Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed gratitude to the citizens of the country for coming forward and making the contributions for relief and restoration operations in Nagaland. He also thanked Sushant Singh Rajput for personally handing over a cheque of INR1.25 cr. towards CM Relief Fund.
“Payments for CM relief fund can be made through credit card, debit card, Netbanking, Amazon Pay, OLA Money, Jio Money and PayTM. All contributions are 100% exempt from income tax as per 80G (2) of Income Tax Act,” it informed.
