AN unknown person was found murdered beside the Highway at 2½ Mile, Dimapur. His body was recovered on December 9. Later, the person was identified as V. Rai, a truck driver, by his handyman.
The handyman revealed that the truck was carrying 70 barrels of bitumen from Assam and was bound for Kohima when a group of unknown persons had boarded the truck in Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district of Assam after requesting the driver to drop them in Dimapur. On reaching Dimapur, both the driver and handyman were overpowered by the miscreants. The driver was strangulated to death by them and his body was later dumped near the highway at 2½ Mile. The miscreants also took away the truck, SP Dimapur said in a release today.
However, the handyman managed to escape and later reported the matter to the police. Acting on the information, a joint team of Dimapur Police and Assam Policearrested four persons the same evening from Sukanjan under Bokajan police station of Karbi Anglong district in Assam.
On further interrogation of the arrested persons, 70 barrels of bitumen was recovered from an abandoned house in Naga United village, Dimapur and the stolen truck was recovered near Nihokhu village area.
The arrested have been identified as Ramesh Gogoi, 41, son of Mohan Gogoi under Rawroia police station in Jorhat district of Assam and present resident of Sewak Colony near 3rd Gate, Dimapur, Sahamot Ali, 21, son of Amser Ali of Boko Bakarapara village under Boko police station in Kamrup district of Assam, Bipul Sangma, 33, son of late Dharom Singh Marak, of Tenglijang village under Bokajan police station in Karbi Anglong district of Assam and Rohim Ali, 30, son of late Babu Ali, of Lahoti village in Jorhat district of Assam and presently residing at Lahorijan in Karbi Anglong district of Assam.
A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
