Blue Stars Cricket Club Dimapur Saturday beat Kohima Hornbills 'B' to win the 7th edition of Silver Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament played here at Jakhama Ground.
In the final match today, Blue Stars CC defeated their Kohima rivals by 20 runs to lift the Silver Cup trophy for the second time. They had won the 5th edition of the annual tourney in 2014 too.
Blue Stars CC who batted first in the final match today set a target of 149 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. Batsmen Imliwati and Muzibur scored 38 runs and 32 runs respectively to give an edge to their team in its bid to lift the championship title.
Kohima Hornbills ‘B’ failed to reach their target even with their strongest batsmen trying their best to outdo their opponents from Dimapur. In the end, Blue Stars CC proved to be the better team. Bharat Newar of Blue Star CC was declared man of the final match for claiming two rival wickets and contributing 18 runs for his team.Although it lost out on the champion title, Kohima Hornbills 'B' was awarded with the honour of Fair Play Team. In the individual award category, Anga of Kohima Hornbills ‘B’ was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for taking a total of 5 wickets and scoring an aggregate 196 runs. He also swept away the Highest Runs Scorer award while Imliwabang of Blue Star CC bagged the Highest Wicket Taker award by taking a total of 9 wickets throughout the tournament. Raktim Bonia of Sparks CC Dimapur won the Best Wicket Keeper award and Nirban Rai of Royal Tourniquet was declared the Emerging Player of the Tournament.
The annual tournament was organized by the Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth Department on the theme 'Peace and Unity Through Cricket'.
Later in the afternoon, the prize distribution ceremony was graced by Group Commander of NNC Group Headquarter, Brigadier MS Nikam as the chief guest while Joint Director of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Dr. B Lama was guest of honour.
The champions received cash award of Rs.70,000 along with trophy and citation while the runners-up received Rs.25,000 with trophy and citation.
The player of the tourney bagged Rs.3000 while other individual awardees won Rs.1500 each. The two semi-finalist teams also received Rs.5000 each and the 24 participating teams were awarded tournament allowances of Rs.2000 each granted by Minister for School Education and SCERT, Yitachu who was the chief guest of the inaugural function of the Tournament on March 16 last.
