DIMAPUR — A one-day block-level community
mobilisation training and sensitisation programme for School Management
Committees (SMCs) and School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs)
under EBRC Kushiabill was held at Western Sumi Hoho Hall, Chekiye Village, on
Tuesday.
The programme was jointly organised by the Directorate of
School Education (DoSE), Samagra Shiksha, and the NECTAR Project with the
objective of strengthening SMCs and SMDCs by enhancing their understanding of
their roles, responsibilities, and key initiatives under the Department of
School Education.
The training sessions, which began on March 17, is part of a
larger initiative and will be conducted across all 46 blocks in Nagaland until
March 28.
Delivering the keynote address, Additional Director of the
Department of School Education, Erali Swu, emphasised the importance of community
mobilisation in improving the quality of education and school development. She
urged SMCs and SMDCs to take ownership of their responsibilities, highlighting
that education cannot progress without community commitment and support,
particularly in government schools.
Swu also pointed out the significance of NEP 2020, and
called for a shift in mindset and urging stakeholders to actively support
school education. She stressed that progress in schools depends largely on the
participation of SMC and SMDC members and encouraged a positive,
solution-driven approach to addressing challenges.
As per the latest education department statistics, there are
1,930 government schools in Nagaland with 18,232 teachers and 136,159 students,
making the department one of the largest employers in the state. Swu
underscored the crucial role of SMCs and SMDCs in supporting students' growth
and ensuring better educational outcomes.
Other resource persons for the event included Meren, State
Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha; Diepeu Mero, Project Associate, Nagaland
Education Project – Lighthouse, and Langthong Konyak, Representative,
NECTAR/P3.
Further, in recognition of their contributions to school
development, EBRC Kushiabill presented mementos and bouquets to the SMCs of GPS
Aoyim, GPS Chekiye Aphuyesah, and GMS Lotovi.
