- DIMAPUR — To
raise public health awareness and provide services ranging from free health
screenings to free medicines, the District Health Society, Mon, organised its
first Block Health Mela at the Ayushmaan Bharat Health and Wellness Centre (AB-HWC)
in Nokyan village on March 18.
- Located 87 km from Mon Headquarters, the centre serves 154
households and 1,003 people, as well as Sakho village, which is 65 km away from
the facility, stated an update.
- To ensure the successful implementation, a team was
assembled, comprising Dr. Wungyong Konyak, District Programme Officer
(Reproductive and Child Health and Universal Immunisation Programme); Dr.
Chimang Paul, paediatrician (District Hospital Mon); Dr. Tsemtseh, Rashtriya
Bal Swasthya Karyakram Medical Officer; Dr. Nyamnyei, Medical Officer (District
Hospital Mon); Dr. Chingyen, Medical Officer (District Hospital Mon); Dr.
Taliwati, Medical Officer (Tizit Primary Health Centre); the Information,
Education, and Communication team; the district account assistant; and the
Block Programme Management Unit, along with four nurses, one ophthalmic
assistant, one pharmacist, and teams from Mobile Integrated Counselling and
Testing Centre and Non-Communicable Diseases.
- At the mela, community members had access to free medicines
and health services, including general check-ups, dental care, paediatric
consultations, ophthalmic services, antenatal care, vaccinations,
non-communicable disease screening, a mobile ICTC providing HIV counselling and
testing services, and focus group discussions with targeted groups such as
pregnant women, lactating mothers, and eligible couples/youths.
- Meanwhile, 110 outpatient department (OPD) cases were
registered, 41 children were screened, 15 underwent eye screenings, 54 received
non-communicable diseases (NCD) screenings, 10 had tuberculosis screenings, and
10 were screened under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme
(NVBDCP).
