Wokha, Sep. 3 (EMN): At the heart of Doyang Hydro Electric Project (DHEP), where power is been generated in Nagaland, the Doyang area remains black out for more than five days.
The Doyang area which is said to have good electricity facilities in the past now remain blackout for more than five days, which has become unbearable pain to the people of the locality. On regular days, the power is 24/7, said a resident of the area.
“Because we have goo power supply, we use electric cooking appliances like rice cookers, electric kettle, induction heaters etc,” said a restaurant owner at Doyang area. She couldn’t offer some hot waters to the visiting Eastern Mirror team, perhaps because it was Sunday (Aug. 2); but she said, “Light nahiai (there is no light!)”.
With good power supply, the people never had the habit of using any alternative way in cooking rather than with electric cookers or electric inductions. “Now preparing food has become a big hardship for us, said the restaurant owner at Doyang
A CISF personnel at the Doyang hydro Project confirmed that the power has been out for the past few days.
The reason for the power blackout at Doyang area could not be firmed. The officials could not be reached either telephonically or personally.
Situated on the Doyang, a tributary of the river Brahmaputra, the project with a capacity of 3 X 25 MW and an estimated annual generation of 227 Million Units was commissioned in July 2000.
