The BJYM Nagaland has strongly reacted to a PTI news report carried in a section of local media under the headline “No minorities in India, all are DNA-wise Hindus: RSS.” “We find it amusing that a senior RSS leader like Dattareya Hosabale should utter such nonsensical statements, which is devoid of truth both from the rational and scientific viewpoints,” said a statement from the BJYM.
“Cannot the so called learned person like Hosabale see the political reality of India, a proud country which professes “unity in diversity” where people of diverse religion, races and culture have co-existed in harmony for hundreds of years?,” it asked. “Is he blind to the reality that Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains or Buddhist form the “minority” section of people but who are at the same time proud citizens of a secular country as enshrined in the Constitution?,” it further asked.
The BJYM said that the reality is that even if the RSS chief, Mohan Bhagwatji, repeat a thousand times that “all those born in India are Hindus,” yet there are citizens who will remain as Christian or Muslims and hold on to their faith till their last breadth.
The BJYM Nagaland then said that it would like to make it public that we do not subscribe to such parochialism approach either in our political or social approach. While respecting the secular BJP party’s principles and ideals of governance, we distance ourselves from such shortsighted remarks, which are bound to do more harm than good to the country in the long run.
“After all, can a DNA test really identify the religion of a person apart from the common knowledge that all human beings are descendents of the apes?,” the BJYM also questioned.
It then called that to have the wisdom to keep a line of distinction between religion and politics, between the concern of our souls and the welfare of our physical self.
“As for the BJYM Nagaland, we iterate that even as we respect the principles of the BJP in our worldly governance, we who have been born and brought as Christians will never, never desert our faith,” the statement added.
