IMPHAL, SEPTEMBER 2: Five Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh workers including women sustained injury in a police action during a silent protest march demanding resignation of Deputy Chief Minister Gaikgangam and probe into controversial police constable (male) recruitment process in Manipur while the assembly session was on, here on Friday.
The incident occurred when two groups of BJP workers led by their leaders tried to move towards the assembly complex at Chingmeiong in Imphal from two directions simultaneously around 11 a.m.
Though the BJP state unit President Kh Bhabananda led team was stopped by a team police at Thangeiband Watham Leirak junction, another team was dispersed by firing tear gas shells and smoke bombs at Khoyathong junction, sources said. Without delay the injured ones were evacuated to the RIMS hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile speaking to reporters, Kh Bhabananda said that they came to stage protest against the government’s move to cancel the police recruitment process. BJP state unit is demanding resignation of Deputy Chief Minister, investigation into the police recruitment process by an independent inquiry committee and action against those individuals who involved in the recruitment process.
The state authority had recently cancelled the recruitment process of around 2000 police (male) constables of 2013 batch claiming “irregularities” in its selection process which evoked sharp reactions from various quarters including the written test successful candidates.
Manipur monsoon assembly begins
The 14th session of the tenth Manipur Assembly began today. At the outset, the august house made obituary reference on the demise of former member of Manipur Legislative Assembly from Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency Kishore Thapa, introduction of Government Bills, tabling of papers, presentation of Committee report has also been taken up during today’s session.
Leader of the house, O Ibobi Singh, while participating in the obituary reference, said late Kishore Thapa was soft, mature and prominent person, adding he had worked with many organisations of different communities. Saying that his loss will remained a void, leader of the house also shared the sorrows with the bereaved family.
Speaker Th Lokeshore Singh expressed that Kishore Thapa was elected as a member of the House in 1974 mid-term election for the first time, then re-elected in 1980 general election and again in 1984. He worked and tried a lot for unity among the different communities of the state.
The obituary reference was attended by IFCD minister Ngamthang Haokip, MLAs Dr I Ibohanbi and Kh Joykishan.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh laid the following papers on the table of the house. The papers are Annual Inspection Report on Panchayati Raj Institution and Urban Local Bodies for 2014-15 (Audited during the year 2015-16); Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India for the year ended 31 March, 2015; Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on State Finances for the year ended 31 March, 2015; Annual Technical Inspection Report on Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies for the year ended 31 March, 2015 and Annual Report of the State Vigilance Commission, Manipur for the year 2015-16.
Education minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh also laid the Manipur Technical University Ordinance, 2016 on the table of the house today. Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh presented the Nineteenth Report of Business Advisory Committee, 2016.
