Mahila Morcha president Caroline Patton emphasised the role of central government schemes in uplifting rural women through the formation of self-help groups (SHGs). She stated that SHGs have empowered women at the grassroots level, fostering confidence and financial independence.
Deputy Chairperson of the Wokha Town Council, Nzano P Kikon, addressed issues of cleanliness and waste management. She called on the public to maintain cleanliness and outlined the challenges faced by the council, including the lack of proper access roads that hamper effective garbage collection.
She assured that the council is working diligently to improve sanitation and urged citizens to cooperate by adopting basic hygiene practices.
Skill Development Officer Anuranjan Singh discussed Wokha’s economic status, noting that the district currently ranks seventh in Nagaland’s District Domestic Product (DDP).
He called for collective efforts to improve the district’s standing, with the goal of reaching the top three. Highlighting Wokha as the leading banana-producing district in the state, he lamented that farmers have not fully benefited due to inadequate processing, packaging, and marketing infrastructure.
In the health sector, the Medical Superintendent of Wokha District Hospital spoke on the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. He informed the public that Ayushman cards are accepted at the district hospital and community health centres in Wokha and Bhandari, as well as at primary health centres in Chukidong and Ralan.
The programme also addressed gender inequality. R Thungbeni Ezung, vice president of the Lotha Eloe Hoho, encouraged women to step beyond traditional boundaries and engage actively in community and development initiatives.
The event concluded with the BJP showcasing its ongoing community initiatives, including a plantation drive in which over 2,000 saplings were planted, alongside other development projects undertaken by the party.
In a similar programme in Kiphire, the president of the BJP Kiphire district, Tali C Sangtam, shared the various achievements of the BJP-led NDA government at both the national and state levels.
He noted that despite Kiphire being one of the most remote districts in the country, the people are enjoying the same benefits as those living in mainland India. He stated that under PM Modi’s leadership, India has made significant progress.
Tali emphasised that the NDA-led government in Nagaland is also functioning effectively, ensuring that development schemes and policies reach the grassroots level, and highlighted several key achievements of the Modi government.
Rothrongse Sangtam, general secretary of the BJP Kiphire Unit, and BJP Mahila Morcha (Women’s Wing) president of Kiphire also shared achievements of the government on the occasion.
