The Nagaland unit of BJP has termed the statement of NPCC squarely blaming the public as very unfortunate and unbecoming of a national political party. The Congress and particularly its legislature party should do some self-introspection before blaming the public and questioning BJP’s role, Media Cell, BJP Nagaland said in a press communique today.
Alleging that the Congress has miserably failed as an effective opposition both inside and outside the house, the communique said if they (Congress) are expecting BJP to play the opposition role of Congress, it only exposes how confused they are.
The BJP went on state that as an alliance partner of DAN, it is well within its moral right to appeal to the warring NPF groups to settle their internal dispute amicably. Going by the dynamics of the present crisis, there was also absolutely nothing wrong for BJP Nagaland to conform its decisions to the fast changing political development.
It further tried to explain the logic behind BJP’s decision to support the majority group led by G Kaito Aye. The communique said out of 44 DAN legislators (NPF 38, BJP 4, JDU 1 and NCP 1), the NPF group led by Kaito has 23 and with 4 from BJP and have the support of 27 MLAs whereas the other group with 15 NPF members and 1 each from NCP and JD (U) have 17 only. Stating that it has no say in seeking support from other legislators, the communique said BJP’s primary concern is to provide a stable government which will last its full term.
When the magic figure of 23 was proven by head count as well as in letter, there is no basis for BJP to stay neutral, it said while also making it clear that BJP’s support is for change of guard and not the government.
BJP Nagaland also clarified that it has no hidden agenda but it is for stable government for the interest of the State and is of the opinion that the best option to end this impasse is to call for physical parade at the earliest.
