Dimapur, July 2 (EMN): The Supreme Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one Ashwini Kumar Upadhya who reportedly claimed ‘protection of non-Naga persons’ in Dimapur amid a popular call toward bringing the business centre under the purview of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
The media officer to the president of the Nagaland Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) issued a note on Tuesday informing about the court dismissing said petition.
The PIL was stated to have come up for hearing on July 2 in the Supreme Court.
In the words of the press release from the BJP: “The whole state BJP party unit joins the rest of the Nagas in rejoicing at the victory, and the subsequent dismissal of the ILP case that came up for hearing in the Supreme Court today before the honourable Chief Justice Shri Ranjan Gogoi , Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Aniruddha Bose.’
“The honourable court had dismissed the petition, and therefore the challenge to the ILP had failed and put to rest.”
Here, the Nagaland unit of the BJP expressed “heartfelt gratitude” to “all the different Naga organisations, all concern citizens of Nagaland, and various other apex bodies and NGOs who have come forward to expressed their discontentment” at the PIL being filing in the Supreme Court.
The BJP also had a word of gratitude for Advocate General KN Balgopal “who fought the case” on behalf of the government of Nagaland, and to deputy chief minister Y Patton, and state BJP President Temjen Imna Along.
