IMPHAL, December 29
Manipur BJP president Thounaojam Chaoba today predicted sweeping victory by his party in the upcoming local body polls in the state.
During a press meet at the party office, Nityapat Chuthek here, Chaoba also said the state BJP had already taught a lesson to the ruling Congress in the recent by-poll held in Thangmeiband and Thongju constituencies.
The Manipur BJP managed to open account in the 60-member assembly after the win.
He ridiculed the Congress about the poll debacle and said the INC would face a humiliating defeat in the scheduled Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat polls. 18 Municipal Councils and eight Nagar Panchayat in the four valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur will go to poll on January 11 next.
The Manipur BJP chief said the three-term Congress government has started showing its inability and weaknesses since the party has failed to field its nominees in all the seats. He said no candidates from the Congress are contesting from Oinam constituency in Bishnupur in the forthcoming polls.
He said the BJP has put up its candidates in all the seats unlike the Congress. Chaoba claimed that his party was gaining strength as it was getting more support from the people.
The BJP leader further chided the Congress government headed by Okram Ibobi Singh for its alleged failure to devolve power to the local bodies in the state.
