Dimapur, April 17 (EMN): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland state unit on Saturday unanimously adopted a resolution to “wholeheartedly” support an early, inclusive and honourable solution to the decades-old Naga political issue.
This resolution was passed during the BJP Nagaland state unit executive meeting at IMC hall, Dimapur, on Saturday.
While appreciating all the Naga political groups engaging in peace talks with the government of India for a final solution, it has appealed to the Centre and the negotiating parties to expedite the process and pave the way for lasting peace and development in the state.
The party also adopted several other resolutions, including providing a stable government to the people by extending support to the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as well as for setting up a strategic committee for economic affairs; and to support programmes of the NDA government at the Centre.
It extended support to the “Act East Policy” and various other programmes for economic uplift of the people of Nagaland and development of state’s agriculture sector.
The meeting also resolved to give unflinching support to BJP leaders -- Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and state BJP president Temjen Imna Along -- to carry forward the aspirations of the people and the party.
Along tells party workers to work together
Speaking at the inaugural session of the meeting, state’s party chief Along stated that as a political party, they had to try to earn everyone’s trust and that nobody could break them if they were united.
“We have different views in our thoughts and minds to achieve and to work, but our hearts and our minds are one and that is the growth and strength and the governance of BJP,” he told the gathering.
He urged the party workers to attend to the needs of the people in every small way, stating that ‘we need to be accessible and open our hearts, and show through actions and work.’
“Our effort is to serve the people of Nagaland and we are a party that crosses through boundaries, tribes, poor or rich. BJP is a party that involves everyone to serve the needs of our people,” he stated.
He further stressed on the need to work together while reminding that the 2023 election was not far away.
“We cannot just expect things to happen if we do not work hard and we need the vision to build a strong BJP party,” he asserted.
He also appealed to the party workers to avoid complaining against each other but to lift one another. “We are not a self-style party but a national party and work together,” he said and urged them to believe in the leaders, their initiatives and strengthen them.
“We should not think like other regional parties who are active only during election time, but we should be a working party,” he added.
“We need some money to sustain ourselves but if we want a developed Nagaland, we need to have a workforce that works with zeal. Where there is deprivation, learn the issues and bring it to the government. The needs of the public should be brought forefront so that our people are not deprived,” he stated.
Further, he said that BJP had come a long way in the state.
“Today we have around four lakh BJP members from over 11 lakh voters in the state,” he said while congratulating the district presidents and past leaders for bringing the party to the position it is in today.
