Dimapur, March 7 (EMN): Minority wing of the Nagaland state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has felicitated eight women achievers during a programme held at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur on Sunday to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
On the occasion, the BJP minority wing has felicitated Mamta Karir, Neeta Agarwal, Awan Konyak, Jesmina Zeliang, Pushpa Thatal, Rajani Jain and Hekani Jakhalu for their achievements and contributions towards the society.
Speaking at the function, advisor of Tourism and Culture, H Khehovi Yeputhomi, has termed the present day ‘significant’ for multiple reasons; the most important being the fight for gender equality and women’s rights.
Yeputhomi stated this while speaking as the guest of honour at an event organised by Bharatiya Janata Party Minority Morcha (BJP) of Nagaland to mark the International Women’s Day held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, on March 7.
Stating that a lot has been done and still more needs to be achieved, Yeputhomi said celebrating an occasion such as the International Women’s Day “gives us an opportunity to reflect on the past history that led to the current status of women.”
‘People need to appreciate and applaud their efforts, tears, energy and blood that they have sacrificed for their mothers and daughters’, he said adding that women are ‘extraordinary beings’ capable of doing miracles. In this context, he commented on remarkable contributions made by women particularly during the pandemic.
The advisor lamented that women have been ‘compromising’ for centuries as daughters, sisters, wives and colleagues.
‘Society expects women to do so many things because of which this notion has embedded so deeply into their mindset that they keep on compromising to the extent where it is unjust but made to accept as a norm by the society,’ he opined.
Yeputhomi has sought concerted efforts in the fight against gender inequality. He further urged to constantly support and uplift each other at all times.
