Lone woman minister Nemcha Kipgen sworn in

Imphal, March 23 (EMN): Exactly eight days after National level footballer turned-Journalist turned-Politician Nongthombam Biren Singh was sworn in as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s first Chief Minister in Manipur, BJP led coalition government here was expanded by inducting the remaining three ministers to complete the list of 12 ministers during a solemn function at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Thursday.
Manipur Governor Dr Najma A Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy to the three new ministers-V Hangkhalian,Nemcha Kipgen and Th Radheshyam at a simple ceremony at Banquet hall of Raj Bhavan at 4 pm.The first two cabinet ministers sworn in English while the last in Manipuri language.
Assam Finance minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma,Deputy chief minister Y Joykumar,Former Chief Minister and present opposition leader O Ibobi Singh, BJP Manipur President Kh Bhabananda, former Manipur CM RB Koijam, newly elected MLAs and state chief secretary,DGP and top officials of the state attended the day’s swearing in ceremony.
Speaking to media Chief Minister Biren said that his government’s next priority to settle the Churachandpur case where eight dead bodies were lying without performing the traditional last rites due to lack of understanding between the previous government and a striking joint action committee. “We’ve send feelers to resolve the issue. Hopefully we are expected to hold talks soon,” Biren said
After a gap of about two hours of the day’s swearing in ceremony of the three new cabinet ministers, Chief Minister Biren administered the oath of office and secrecy to 12 parliamentary secretaries at the cabinet hall of Chief Minister’s secretariat here this evening.
The parliamentary secretaries are L Sushindro (Khurai), S Subhaschandra (Naoriya), L Rameshwar (Keirao), N Indrajit (Kshetrigao), K Robindro (Mayang Imphal),Th Seitabrata (Yaiuskul),H Dingo (Sekmai),Dr S Ranjan (Konthoujam)-all BJP MLAs, Khasim Vashum(Chingai), K Leishiyo (Phungyar) and Awangbou Newmai (Tamei)-all NPF and Independent MLA Md Ashab Uddin (Jiribam).
Chief Minister Biren who was accompanied by Assam Minister Hemanta Biswa and state chief secretary O Nabakishore, also informed that media that the portfolios of his cabinet ministers and parliamentary secretaries will be announced soon maybe today or tomorrow.
The BJP, which came second with 21 seats (7 less than Congress), has formed the coalition government with the support of the National People’s Party (4), the Naga People’s Front (4), Lok Janshakti Party(1), All India Trinamool Congress(1), Congress (1) and lone Independent MLA — taking its tally to 33 legislators.
On March 15, Biren, BJP MLA from Heingang constituency, who switched over to BJP in October last year, besides Yumnam Joykumar Singh and seven others were sworn in as Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and Cabinet ministers. The ministers are Th Biswajit (BJP), L Jayentakumar (NPP), K Shyam (LJP), Letpao Haokip (NPP), N Kayisii (NPP), Th Shyamkumar (Congress) and L Dikho (NPF).
Manipur assembly adjourned sine die
The first session of the 11th Manipur State Legislative Assembly having a total of 4 sittings come to an end after new assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand adjourned sine die on Thursday noon.
The assembly session which was started from March 20 a day after newly elected MLAs of 60 member house were sworn in by the Protem speaker V Hangkhalian, was adjourned sine die on March 23 noon.
