IMPHAL — Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s possible visit to Manipur on September 13, BJP national spokesperson Dr. Sambit Patra and North East coordinator (Manipur in-charge) Dr. Ajit Gopchade, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, arrived in Imphal on Wednesday.
The two leaders were received at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport by BJP Manipur unit president Adhikarimayum Sarda Devi, along with MLAs L Sushindro, Dr. Sapam Ranjan, Th. Basantakumar and other party functionaries.

When questioned about possible political developments linked to the Prime Minister’s expected visit, Patra and Gopchade declined to comment. However, sources indicated that their arrival may be connected to discussions on the possible formation of a popular government in the state and preparations for mobilising public participation during Modi’s visit.
Their visit comes just three days after Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla convened a high-level meeting with BJP legislators and senior state officials at Raj Bhavan.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway in Imphal, including the setting up of a meeting venue at Kangla Fort and security arrangements for the “VVIP” visit.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13, following the resignation of former chief minister N. Biren Singh. The state continues to grapple with the aftermath of ethnic violence between Kuki-Zo tribes and Meiteis since May 2023, which has claimed more than 250 lives and displaced over 50,000 people, many of whom remain in relief camps.
