NPCC President K Therie today condemned Bharitiya Janata Party government’s attitude for ‘systematically’ destroying the democratic institutions, saying the growing of BJP is dangerous to the nation especially to the minority communities like Nagas.
Therie also pointed at Nagaland BJP which he said has been voicing against Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for anti-national slogan allegedly made by President, Democratic Student Union (DSU) at JNU compound on February 9.
NPCC President in a statement said, “DSU is a student wing organization of the CPM. They believe in the ideology of Maoism. According to our information DSU had called a meeting on the issue of capital punishment (Hanging to death). They believe that capital punishment is against humanity and should not be applied anymore, be it Afzal Guru and Mumbai bomb blast convict Yakub Memon or on anyone in future.
“Permission was granted for peaceful meeting to be organised at the Badminton Stadium within JNU compound. Fearing reaction, they were asked not to use mics and they agreed accordingly. Meantime ABVP (RSS and BJP wing of Student Union under JNU) filed an application demanding withdrawal of permission and the JNU administration withdrew the permission. However, by that time, students from outside mostly from J&K had also gathered along with DSU members. “
“In the course of time, it appears the ABVP members also marched to the area and challenged them through provocative slogans. DSU has denied that they have raised anti-national slogans. They alleged that the TV channel film was doctored. We never know…”
Therie alleged that RSS has been attacking educational institutions such as FII, TERI and many other institutions, the Dalit Rohit Vemula suicide case and re-writing schoolbooks while the BJP’s ministers have been advocating Gita to be declared as National Holy Book.
“We are all aware that JNU was founded in the name of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru whose philosophy is social, secular and democratic. Now ABVP’s demand is that JNU should be shut down.”
He said, the JNU issue is a pre-meditated program of the RSS and BJP to shut down the institution that imparts studies on social, secular and democratic ideologies and principles. They are systematically destroying the democratic institutions.
“The RSS Chief is saying that the Tri-colour National Flag is not required and should be replaced by saffron colour. Should we support such a move? Should we allow to happen or stand together to stop from happening?”
