Meanwhile, Imtiwapang Kichu, a resident of Chungtia village, has announced his intention to contest the by-election as an independent candidate.
Kichu recently resigned from his post as an inspector in the department of Industries and Commerce and declared his candidature on Friday. He is expected to file his nomination on March 23, the last date for submissions.
The by-election was necessitated following the demise of Imkong L Imchen, a prominent political figure who represented the constituency for over two decades.
Polling is scheduled for April 9, while counting will take place on May 4, as per the Election Commission of India. More candidates are likely to enter the fray before the nomination deadline.
