Binthu Newmai won the title in cover song while Flame X Crew emerged as the winners in cover dance of the K-Pop Contest (Nagaland Regional round) held on July 1 evening at Regional Centre of Excellence for Music and Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma.
Binthu Newmai and Flame X Crew will now be heading to New Delhi to compete with the winners of the ten other regions for the grand finale scheduled tentatively on July 29, 2017, at Talkatora Stadium. The winning contestants from both the categories of the grand finale will be nominated for the 2017 K-Pop world festival and go on a complimentary trip to Korea.
It was informed that the date for the grand finale will be announced in the official page of the Korean Cultural Community of India (KCCI).
The ten other regions include – New Delhi, Patna, Chennai, Assam, Mizoram, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Odisha, Kolkata and Mumbai.
For the cover song, Binthu Newmai bagged the title out of 11 contestants, while Flame X Crew emerged as the winners out of two contestants.
Inakali Kona bagged the 1st runner-up in cover song, followed by Vinito Achumi as the 2nd runner-up. As for cover dance, the second position was bagged by The Twisters.
The event, organised by Dream Team Nagaland, was graced by Dr Neikiesalie Nicky Kire as the guest of honour and Theja Meru as the special guest.
The contest was judged by Lee Seol Jun, vocal instructor of JYP entertainment, Park So Yeon, Intern at KCCI, Edwin Kubzar, winner of K-Pop cover contest India 2013 and members of Elemenz including Anung Walling, Akeheto Yeptho, and Zack Swuro. It may bem mentioned that Elemenz were the winners of K-Pop cover dance North East 2016.
This year’s event was the 6th edition of K-Pop Contest India and is being organised by the Korean Cultural Centre, India. Here at Kohima, the event was supported by Rattle & Hum Music Society and Innovations.
K-Pop is a musical genre characterised by a wide variety of audiovisual elements, described as a modern form of South Korean pop music covering dance-pop, ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop, R&B, etc. The craze and the jazz for this musical genre of music are extremely popular and global.
