Dimapur, August 6 (EMN): A bike rally that was organised as part of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council’s Clean Election campaign has culminated at Ungma village in Mokokchung district on July 5.
The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (Ao Baptist Church Association), which informed to have organised the biking event, issued a press release on Sunday.
After an eventful and productive first day on July 4, the press release stated, the campaign continued in and around the state’s capital, Kohima town, with the slogans ‘we want Clean Election and we stand for Clean Election.’ It then headed to Botsa, Wokha, and Alichen and finally arrived at Ungma village where a ‘culmination programme’ was conducted, the organisers stated.
Further, a ‘sensitization programme’ was held at said places. Rev. Dr. Mar Atsongchanger, executive secretary of the ABAM, appealed to the public not to get involved in malpractices during the election but ‘sensibly vote for God fearing leaders as good Christians,’ the press release stated. “He firmly opined that clean election is not against any political party nor in support of any political party but, we want to have a prosperous future for the younger generation and that can only be attained through right and sensible voting,” the updates stated. “With a great deal of remorse he stated that Nagaland present political imbroglio and developmental paralysis are the result of our injustice involvement in election.”
Therefore, the press release stated, “We make sure that we participate in the coming election with true Christian principles and for that cause we are here.”
The speaker also expressed alarm that Christians are being victimized and that ‘democracy seems to be disappearing in the country.’ If the trend continues, the speaker was quoted as having said, an ‘unprecedented egregious situation may strike our land and therefore we should not vote for the party which is against Christian faith.’
Also, Rev. Noklen, pastor of Ungma Baptist church, called upon the public to dedicate to the campaign. He thanked the bikers for their commitment and urged them to continually uphold the movement for, he said, with God everything was possible.
“Hundreds of people participated in the NBCC clean election signature campaign during this two days NBCC clean election campaign bikers rally which we believe will alleviate the pressure of human power during election starting right from now on,” ,the ABAM stated.
The organisation has expressed gratitude to the administrations, church associations, churches, and the locals in general for their support, help, and cooperation during the event.
‘We believe it was through your contribution the campaign was successful. ABAM keeps the faith that every Christian in Nagaland will in all true Christian principles and disciplines participate in the coming election,’ the statement added.
