Bhavesh from Mumbai has bested 31 beatboxers from across the country, including four from Nagaland, to claim the top slot at the India Beatboxing Championship finals held here at the Hockey Ground, IG Stadium, Kohima on Thursday. Ishan from Delhi was adjudged the second place winner while Karun and Rishab from Bangalore came third.
The championship was held as a part of the Hornbill International Music Festival, one of the major features of the annual Hornbill Festival. The winner of the beatboxing competition walked away Rs.50,000 richer plus an AKG microphone from Harman, specially designed for beatboxers. The second and third place winners were awarded Rs.30,000 and Rs.10,000 respectively.
Out of about 100 entries received from across India, 32 were selected to compete in the Kohima event.

The panel of judges included Pepouni, founder of Swissbeatbox; MC Eucalips, a finalist of American Beatbox Championship and CEO of Beatbox Without Borders; Vineeth Vincent, renowned Indian beatboxer; and Julius Mitchell from Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, the Hornbill International Rock Contest (HIRC), one of the biggest competitive platforms for rock musicians in India and the main highlight of the annual festival, entered the second qualifications round this evening. Eight out of the 18 bands that are battling in the qualifiers will be selected to go head to head at the grand finals slated to be held on December 9.
Bands from six states are participating in this year’s edition of the HIRC.
The 10-day Hornbill International Music Festival which began on December 1 is an initiative of the state government’s Music Task Force and produced by Little Fire Productions. Event partners include Symphony Academy of Music, Life Pro, Innovations and Kemp Designs.
The winner of HIRC 2016 will be awarded Rs.10,00,000 while the 2nd and 3rd runners up will win Rs.2,00,000 and Rs.1,00,000 respectively. Individual prize winners will be awarded with gift gears from Harman, organizers informed.
