
Dimapur, Jan. 4 (EMN): Benpuluin Semchir Telongjem (BST) celebrated its silver jubilee (1996-2021) at Kumlong community ground which was attended by a host of guests from other places. The silver jubilee programme was a year-long celebration where BST undertook different activities like health camps and culminated with a grand programme on December 28 coinciding with the 22nd edition of the Benpuluin Memorial Volleyball Trophy.
BST is a union formed by the descendents of Benpuluin Jamir, one of the first settlers of the present day Kumlong ward in Mokokchung town, informed the union.
The main speaker of the programme and SDO (C) of Mokokchung, Sentilong Ozukum, while speaking on the theme of the celebration ‘Rejuvenation,’ has stressed on rededication for the betterment of oneself, family and the society. Stating that celebrating twenty-five years of existence is not a small feat, he asserted that the theme was appropriate for everyone to introspect and look forward with renewed strength.
While speaking about the present society, Ozukum lamented on the prevailing negativism among the people which is hampering the progress of the society. Stating that the society exists because of individuals “you and I,” he said that it should be the duty of everyone to contribute positively for the society to move forward.
Further wishing the best on the occasion of twenty-five years celebration, Ozukum urged BST members to passionately invoke God’s blessings so that many more grandchildren would become responsible citizens and leaders and serve the people with truth and honesty.
Meanwhile, the pastor of Kumlong Baptist Church, Kikum Longkumer, invoked God’s blessings at the Jubilee celebration. A souvenir book was also released at the programme to commemorate the grand celebration.
The year-long jubilee celebration culminated with the 22nd edition of Benpuluin Memorial Volleyball Tournament (BMVT) held on December 30 and 31. The Windy Club Mongsenbai emerged winner after defeating Kumlong Sporting Association in straight sets in the tournament.
