
Dimapur, Dec. 21 (EMN): Minister of PWD (Housing and Mechanical), Tongpang Ozukum, on Tuesday, inaugurated the office of the Bee Keepers’ Union-cum-Honey shop in Mima village in Southern Angami region of Kohima district.
Speaking at the occasion, Ozukum encouraged the villagers not to rear bee as a hobby only but take it up as profession for livelihood sustenance and economic uplift, an update informed. Ozukum also assured all possible help to the farmers.
While encouraging all the beekeepers of Mima village to be united and work together for promotion of Mima honey, the minister urged the villagers to continue working hard and ‘spread the sweetness among all.’ He further assured to extend all possible support to Mima village through local representatives and advisor Medo Yhokha.
Meanwhile, the advisor of Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan stated that Mima is the cradle of honey in Nagaland.
‘Mima is already in the honey map of Nagaland and India with underground beekeeping the best dominant attraction,’ he said and appealed to not lose the rich tradition passed on by the forefathers.
Stressing on improvising the beekeeping technology, he stated that the Horticulture department has taken up beekeeping in ‘mission mode’ adding that the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission started because of Mima village.
He also appreciated the formation of Mima Bee Keepers’ Union (MBKU) and further encouraged them to improve the quality and value while also maintaining a hygienic rearing process.
‘Nagaland honey is considered unique with more nutrition than other parts of the country’, he said.
Also speaking at the occasion, advisor of Elections and Technical Education, Medo Yhokha, encouraged the villagers to continue maintaining the trademark of being a honey village and not just be profit oriented.
Minister for Tribal Affairs and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along, advisor of Youth Resources Zale Neikha, MLA T Yangseo Sangtam and NDPP general secretary Ekyimo Kikon were also part of the programme.
