The Chairmen Union Peren District (CUPD), which is a conglomerate of all the recognized village councils under Peren district, has declared its fullest support to the decision of the State government for pre-production exploration of petroleum and natural gas by Metropolitan Oil & Gas Pvt. Ltd.
The CUPD said, all the respective village councils agreed for a concerted effort in asserting their rights over their land and natural resources as vested through customary practices of their respective villages, and emphasized that it would not allow any vested interests from outside, be it village councils or individuals or groups to come in the way of ‘prospective’ oil exploration in Peren district.
CUPD Chairman, Namgong in a statement informed that the Union in its emergency meeting held on October 20 at Jalukie town made a detailed deliberation on the issue of oil and natural gas exploration in Peren district and unanimously agreed to give the fullest support to the decision of the State government.
Meanwhile, the union said, “While taking cognizance of its fellow three villages viz. Lamhai, Old Jalukie and Beisumpui who had signed MoA with the company MOGPL authorized by the State government for pre-production exploration of petroleum and natural gas in their lands, also expects that the company (ies) involved and State government be true to its commitment in upholding whatever agreements have been reached between the land owners and the company and the State government be it verbal assurance or written documents, so that no unprecedented discrepancies crop up between the parties in future.”
