Dimapur, July 28 (EMN): The director of the Prodigals’ Home, K Ela, on Saturday called upon the students to inculcate the characteristics of being ‘smart’ in order to make the society a smarter place to live in. She said that sensibility, marketability, accountability, reliability, and trustworthiness are other characters needed to build a smart society.
Ela was addressing the summer exposure camp as special guest conducted at Green Park in Dimapur on July 28. The camp was attended by the students of five schools comprising Sematilla Government School, Dhansiripar Government School, Purana Bazaar Government School, Vephuho Foundation School, and Millinneal Vision School. The project SPATIAL Team and CAN Youth were the organisers and sponsors.
“Today let’s focus on ourselves and ask, am I a smart human being?” Ela said adding that to build a good society one has to build oneself first and then for the society.
The director’s lecture revolved around ‘what it takes to be a smart human being.’ She has termed the word ‘SMART’ into an acronym representing sensibility, marketability, accountability, reliability, and trustworthiness. According to Ela, a smart person would possess all these qualities. She urged the students to learn these characteristics which according to her would make the society a smart one.
The director mentioned that CAN Youth has been undertaking so many initiatives for the growth of school children because they could see many good things coming out of youngsters. She called on the students to make use of the opportunity for the growth of their ‘smart’ characteristics with the goal of building a good society.
She also urged them to be sensible and marketable like a magnet so that they attract people by being honest and sincere. She advised them to be accountable and reliable so that parents, teachers, and society could rely on them.
Chief functionary of CAN Youth, Jenpu Rongmei, enlightened the students about the motive and objective behind organising the exposure camp. Rongmei stated that students learn many things everyday in school on varied topics and subjects including the personalities of others. He, however, opined that students seldom get time to study about themselves and hence failed to know themselves—their strengths and weaknesses. Rongmei maintained that the exposure camp was conducted to give a platform to students to study their own self while enjoying at the same time.
“It is a day for students to enjoy. This day is about getting to know yourself more and enjoying yourself,” Rongmei asserted.
In an interaction with Eastern Mirror, Rongmei informed that CAN Youth is planning to link up with more schools in the future so as to give the students an opportunity to get to learn things outside of the school syllabus. He was contented that ever since CAN Youth started engaging with the school children, the organisation could see improvements in their characters and personalities. He added that CAN Youth is investing a lot of time for students as they are the ones to make or break the future of the society.
