Dimapur, Sep. 8 (EMN): The basketball clinic organised by the Dorians Society in association with the Nagaland Basketball Association (NBA) commenced on Friday at the Dimapur Government College basketball court.
The two-day event is a comprehensive coaching camp for players, referees and coaches where 25 aspiring players signed up for the camp on the first day.
The organisers have roped in two professional coaches and a referee with national and international experience.
Satyabrata Nayak (Indian Railways Women team Coach) has played for senior national from 1992 to 2005 and All India University from 1992 to 1994. Some of his notable wins as a basketball player includes Silver in Junior National and Gold in All India University. Currently coach for the Eastern Railway Women team since 2010, his noteworthy wins includes, third in All India Inter Railway Championship 2013-14, 2014-15 and Gold in 2015-16. Nayak has coached the West Bengal women team 2017 for Federation Cup where the team took the third place. As a coach of Indian Railways Women team in the year 2016-2017, the team stood third in the Senior National Championship 2016-17.
Amalendu Kumar Singh (Youth coach, West Bengal), having played the Junior International in 1992, Senior National Championship from 1991 to 2011, Singh has coached the West Bengal Youth boys team in 2014 and 15, and West Bengal Junior Girls team in 2017. To his credit Singh has played professional league in Dhaka from 1997 to 2009.
Atanu Banerjee a professional International Basketball Federation (FIBA) referee has been part of U-19 Asian Championship for Women in Bangkok, Thailand in 2007, U-21 World Championship for Women in Moscow, Russia in 2007, Asian Champions Cup for men in Kuwait in 2009, Asian Championship for Men in 2011 in China and 2014 in Philippines, and South East Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2014.
