IMPHAL, OCTOBER 18: The 7-day Basic Course in News Reporting organised by the State Institute of Journalism(SIJ), DIPR Manipur concluded on Monday at DRDA conference hall, Senapati district headquarters with the distribution of certificates to the 20 trainees which include 8 female trainees.
Speaking on the occasion, Course Co-ordinator, SIJ, DIPR, Chongtham Noyon Singh said, “Such academic course is very helpful to a student of journalism to get an idea of the subject. He needs to undergo such trainings to widen his knowledge about the current problems of the day.”
Stating that practical training on the job is also equally essential, he said therefore the short term course/training in journalism is conducted by the State Institute of Journalism including practical trainings such as field visit and submission of report of the visit by the trainees as well as exercises.
The Course Co-ordinator also appreciated the trainees for their enthusiasm in taking part in the News Reporting Course.
Deputy Director, DIPR,Th. Sarat Sharma underlined the need of journalism in the present day and appealed the young journalists to maintain the ethics of the journalism.
Speaking on the occasion, the Editor of Herald Today, Senapati, John Basu, who is a faculty member of the course, stated that journalist trainees should write the good news from Senapati district for bringing about more development and peace in the district and the state as a whole. He further stated that the training programme which started from October 10 is very interesting as the participants interacted among themselves through social media about journalism and mass communication. Though the seven-day period is short, the trainees could earn sufficient knowledge about news reporting during the course, he added.
In his address, guest faculty member, L. Soloni Pao, MCS (retd.), thanked the organisers for conducting this training in Senapati district for the first time. It will help in producing more working journalists who will ultimately help in the media houses in the district, he said.
On behalf of the trainees, Sarvashree RL Jonah Rong and Adam Poumei spoke about the training and said it was satisfactory. They appealed to the department concerned to organise such programme in the future too.
Later, Course co-ordinator and other dignitaries in the function gave away the certificates to the trainees. L. Kapani, DIO, Senapati, proposed vote of thanks .
